General release:
Recip.ly is a new website that helps families choose from a selection of quality recipes and plan a week's worth of healthy eating. The service breaks down each recipe into a list of ingredients which automatically appears in a shopping cart at Tesco.com. Recip.ly is simple to use, saving users time and money.
The team at Recip.ly built the site as part of a business startup challenge weekend called Launch48, overcoming technical difficulties with the Tesco purchasing system and sculpting a revenue model out of a market with razor thin margins. Following the weekend, Recip.ly will grow to become an affiliate network for food purchasing and will be adding a "Buy Now" button to food blogs and recipe sites.
Tech community release:
What can you achieve in a weekend? Well, after a mere 24 hours, 15 bright minds pieced together a new service called Recip.ly
The website helps families to choose from a selection of quality recipes and plan a week's worth of healthy eating. The service breaks down each recipe into a list of ingredients which automatically appears in a shopping cart at Tesco.com. Recip.ly is simple to use, saving users time and money.
Recip.ly was one of five teams at Launch48, an exciting challenge to build a web application in under 48 hours. Recip.ly is the first team of developers to take on the Tesco API and attempt to make use of it for user purchasing. The flat and unattractive affiliate rate available to third parties makes this implementation seem anything but sensible from a business perspective. However the team intends to disrupt the market by forcing supermarkets to seriously consider affiliate schemes in food purchasing.
Watch out for the team that emerges from Launch48, Recip.ly is looking to become the biggest affiliate network in the food vertical by placing a "Buy Now" widget on food blogs and recipe sites across the internet. Take a look at the Recip.ly blog and follow @Reciply on Twitter
