So much work has been completed, a truly incredible effort from the team. A first version of the site is very very close to being properly launched.

HUGE thanks to the organisers, mentors and sponsors of #Launch48, we've all had a fantastic time.

Sat, 05 Jun 2010 10:29:43 -0700 The Wicked Ways of Tesco http://blog.recip.ly/the-wicked-ways-of-tesco http://blog.recip.ly/the-wicked-ways-of-tesco After lots of hair-loss, we finally have the API working, thanks to this blog post: http://www.whatdidi.com/WhatDidI/Welcome.html we've figured out what was wrong with Tesco API.

Summary:
  • It turns out Tesco are currently migrating their users from an old system (Bob) to a new system.
  • Some (end-user) customers are on their old system (which doesn't work with their API) whilst some users are on their new system, which does.
  • Somewhat inexplicably, new users are put on their old system; so neither of the accounts we signed up for today, will work with the API
  • Thankfully, Craig signed up for an account 2 months ago, which works!
What this means:
  • Not every user will be able to use our service :(, probably users who have not yet signed up for Tesco.com will not be migrated yet.
  • But, we will at least be able to demo.
  • And, it sounds like the migration should be finished by the end of June (in theory).
Next steps:
  • Build the product :s

Sat, 05 Jun 2010 09:53:14 -0700 Feedback from our afternoon board meeting at #Launch48 http://blog.recip.ly/feedback-from-our-afternoon-board-meeting-at http://blog.recip.ly/feedback-from-our-afternoon-board-meeting-at We just had our second board meeting here at Launch48. Feedback included some excellent pointers on scraping pages to cover the weak API options available to us. Overall the guidance, support and advice from the mentors has been superb, many thanks to all of you!

Our marketing and business plans are coming along well and our user interface has been refined to an easy-to-use three step process.

Post board meeting, the debate continued as we drew up a list of goals for the end of the day. Keep your eyes peeled for a slick new landing page, we'll be opening up a mailing list too so you can register your interest and stay up to date with progress once we have launched the prototype.

Sat, 05 Jun 2010 04:29:00 -0700 Getting Started With Tesco Applications http://blog.recip.ly/getting-started-with-tesco-applications http://blog.recip.ly/getting-started-with-tesco-applications

Finding out about Tesco's API is a little trickier than it should be, the steps you need to take:

A first step to checking that everything working is to issue the LOGIN command. To do this you need a tesco.com (customer) account: http://www.tesco.com/superstore/default.aspx. With these four bits of information you can try to login (as a customer), replacing <these_terms> with the appropriate details.

This should get you a response like this:

JSON:
  "StatusCode": 0,
  "StatusInfo": "Processed and Logged OK",
  "BranchNumber": "0",
  "CustomerId": "<id>",
  "CustomerName": "Mr Roberts",
  "SessionKey": "<key>",
  "ChosenDeliverySlotInfo": "No delivery slot is reserved.",
  "CustomerMessageOfTheDay": ""
}

You can then use the session key in your application.

Sat, 05 Jun 2010 03:41:00 -0700 Introducing Reciply http://blog.recip.ly/were-reciply http://blog.recip.ly/were-reciply
Hi! We're Recip.ly!

We're building a site to help people with recipe planning and allow anyone to buy ingredients online for convenient delivery to the home.
It's 11am; we have 10 hours today and another 9 hours tomorrow to get from concept to a fully functional website, business plan, marketing plan. Easy!
We have a great team with a broad range of skills, plenty of food and beer, and bucket loads of energy and confidence. We will finish development tomorrow night with a fantastic product to show you - that's a promise.

This morning we divided up into teams, Developers at one end of the room, Biz/Marketing/Market Research at the other. The pace is frantic but enthusiasm is high.

Defining the target audience is the main issue at this point. Who shops for groceries online? Quick research has shown this to be women younger than 55 years old with around £50 000 household income. The experience we plan to create will be based around meeting their needs.

We've just had our first board meeting, and have tried to identified which of the mentors will be most useful to us.

Lots to do and so little time! We'll be blogging more during the day and you can also follow us on twitter (@reciply) so stay tuned for updates!
